2011 Lusitano Collection™
February 23 – 26, 2011

The
Lusitano Collection™ International Horse Auction is an annual
event which takes place during the Winter Equestrian Festival in
West Palm Beach, Florida. This prestigious auction gives
interested buyers the opportunity to purchase Brazilian horses
without the hassle of import fees or quarantine periods. The
event provides interested buyers with the unique opportunity to
meet with and buy directly from the breeders, rather than an
agent, while enjoying the additional benefits of test-riding all
of the horses and viewing their veterinarian records, including
most recent x-rays. Since its debut in the United States in
2008, it has become an established presence in the equestrian
event and social calendar of West Palm Beach, Florida.
Our
experienced professional team, composed of breeders,
international riders and veterinarians, work together throughout
the year to handpick the healthiest, most desirable FEI™ quality
sport horses for the auction. These Lusitanos, which are born on
the breeders’ farms, are carefully handled at every stage of
development, from halter training to trailer loading and
standing in cross ties before they even begin training under
saddle. A supervised group of highly skilled riders works with
the horses using classical dressage methods. Only the horses
that possess three correct gaits, demonstrate a positive
attitude, and are considered to be mature continue in the
training program. Many of them compete in local horse shows
before traveling to the United States.
2010 Event Highlights
For its
third consecutive year in the U.S., the 2010 Lusitano
Collection™ International Horse Auction presented a select group
of 30 horses from two of the most prominent Lusitano breeders in
Brazil - Interagro Farms, the largest Lusitano breeder and
exporter in the world, and Coudelaria Rocas do Vouga.
The 2010
Lusitano Collection™ International Horse Auction encompasses a
multi-faceted experience that extends far beyond that of a
simple horse auction. We offer a social and equestrian event
that continues to draw previous buyers, trainers, former
Olympians and horse lovers across North and South America.
On February
27, 2010, after hundreds of guests entered the Center’s indoor
arena and enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at sunset, they
gathered around burgundy clothed tables adorned with white roses
and candles while they were served a catered dinner. A duo plate
featuring roasted beef tenderloin and a roasted grouper was
paired with a Beau Site Saint Estephe Bordeaux and Tattinger
champagne.

During the
event, a rose gold plateau ring donated by the exquisite Italian
designer Vhernier was auctioned off for $5,600.00. The proceeds
were donated to the official charitable partner for the event,
the Equestrian Aid Foundation (EAF) which assists those in the
horse community suffering from catastrophic injury or illness
during their time of need.
With the
shout of a whistle, brightly-costumed Rhythm Beaters created a
spectacular performance with drumming pulsing rhythms which
enticed scantily-clad samba dancers with large feathered
headdresses to move their hips to the exhilarating beat. The
carnival-style atmosphere brought the guests to their feet as a
train of participants and performers wove dancing lines around
the tables to form a circle and shimmy with dancers to the
delight of the crowd. As the Carnival dispersed, business began.
From their
seats, the guests were treated to an up-close and personal
presentation of each auction horse. A four-year-old
newly-trained Interagro Lusitano stallion brought a record price
of $145,000.00 and seventy percent of the lots were sold at or
above their reserve prices, resulting in an average price of
US$41,700.00 per animal sold. The bidding was fierce for many
favorites, but most prospective buyers left the night with a
sport horse or two of their own.
The 2010
Lusitano Collection™ sponsors included Canadian Horse Journal,
Cantor & Webb P.A, Dressage Today, Equestrian Aid Foundation,
Horse Connection, Palm Beach Post, The Jim Brandon Equestrian
Center, Wellington Magazine and Warmbloods Today.
The
successful results achieved by the Lusitano Collection™ go
beyond the simple commercial aspect of the sales. More
importantly, this auction served to advance the introduction of
the Lusitano breed one step further in North America, not only
by increasing the number of Lusitano owners, but also, very
specifically, by attracting an ever growing group of
sophisticated and savvy horse persons, interested in the
Lusitano breed, who know how to distinguish and evaluate the
quality and potential of the horses they buy. All for the love
of the Lusitano breed.
