José Ignacio, Punta del Este, Uruguay (September 15, 2023) – While their counterparts in the US focus on dressage and competitions, the Interagro Lusitanos of Brazil have been developing additional talents both at their home training center outside of São Paulo and in the resort town of José Ignacio, Uruguay. Interagro has been evolving the modern Lusitano sporthorse since the 1970s. With horses competing on all four continents, their home base of South America is not to be forgotten, with generations of horses and FEI level training producing an exceptional equestrian legacy.
Set among the tropical backdrop of the idyllic surf town and upscale resorts of José Ignacio is an equestrian oasis that combines a passion for horses with top level competition. Haras Godiva is the equestrian mecca in this beach town, and has imported multiple Interagro horses as part of their training center that is dedicated a love and passion for horses. From beach rides to Grand Prix dressage and jumping, Haras Godiva’s Interagro-bred horses are a favorite mount of head trainer Mauricio Delucchi and his wife Paulina. The farm’s Arte Ecuestre events regularly featured Interagro horses in pas de deux, Grand Prix dressage, and driving, and the next generation features two Interagro horses in training, Othelus Interagro (Fellini Interagro x Gazuza Interagro) and Provisor Interagro (Gladiador Interagro x Fazenda Interagro). Othelus is a black stallion with the personality, good looks, and big heart that Interagro prides itself on breeding into its horses, and is Paulina’s show horse. Provisor Interagro is owned by Camilla Sanchez and in full training with Delucchi at Haras Godiva. Another Interagro boy, Hamilcar Interagro, is also living large in Uruguay at the training center and winery Sol Profundo.

Back in Brazil, Interagro’s sprawling breeding farm and training center hosted an upper level driving clinic with Swedish driver Anders Eriksson. The Swede is an accomplished horseman whose credentials include tutelage at the Swedish Riding School, employment by the Swedish Royal Stables as a rider, coachman, and farrier, and representing his country in competitive driving for more than a decade, including the World Championships for pairs. He regularly travels to instruct in long-lining, driving, and other equine topics around the Nordic countries and the United States, as well as Brazil. The private clinic included one outside guest, Renata Cerqueira from Florianópolis, Brazil, who is a veterinarian, photographer, and new director of Carriage Driving at the Brazilian Equestrian Federation. Cerqueira owns Herbert Interagro, Magno Interagro, and Quartilho II Interagro. Eriksson instructed the Interagro staff and Cerqueira using a selection of Interagro’s mares, making for an exciting and informative session. In addition, Dr. Carla Omura, an equine dentist, also granted extra expertise on equine dentistry to the clinic’s attendees and helped to organize the clinic with Eriksson.
